Outdoor Boudoir Photography

Boudoir in the Great Outdoors

Outdoor Boudoir Just Makes Sense.

Doing Boudoir Photography in Bend, Oregon is an absolute delight. Within 20 minutes of downtown, you can be near alpine lakes, or lush forests, or stark, stunning high desert. Getting out into nature and getting your photos taken is a great experience, and looking like a queen while being surrounded by beauty makes you feel even more empowered and beautiful! There are several locations I like to shoot in that are secluded enough to ensure no prying eyes make things uncomfortable, but not too remote that you’ll lose cell service and not be able to post behind the scenes selfies! Here are a few brief summaries of each of my favorite places to shoot!

The Oregon Badlands:

Located 20 minutes east of Bend, the Oregon Badlands Wilderness area is pure, unadulterated High Desert terrain. It’s rich with juniper, tumbleweeds, and the most amazing golden hour and sunsets anywhere. It’s one of my favorite places on earth, not just to shoot, but also to just exist.

The Old Tumalo Reservoir:

Located about 10 minutes west of Bend, this is the site of one of Oregon’s most egregious grifts. A self proclaimed engineer convinced the State of Oregon to fund a reservoir that was never going to be able to function. He took the money and hightailed it out of town, leaving the area with a non-functioning water system and plenty of rage. All that’s left today is a crumbling pump house, which is an absolutely stunning place to shoot! The backdrop behind the pump house is just flat, empty desert, so it is idyllic.

Cascade Lakes Highway

The Cascade Lakes Highway is an absolutely stunning loop of highway that starts in Bend and then loops between Mt. Bachelor and the South Sister, and down to Sunriver. There’s such a wild and diverse set of landscapes and absolutely any of them will inspire you and make you feel like you are a majestic queen of nature!

I wrote a bit more about why I’m such an advocate for outdoor on a recent Instagram Post, but I wanted to add my thoughts here too:

In one of the boudoir photographer facebook groups I'm a part of, there was recently some discussion about whether or not outdoor boudoir is valid or even makes sense. Why would you wear that outdoors? What sense does that make? I guess I kinda understand some of that thought process, but to me, the idea of an outdoor shoot is to convey a sense of freedom. Of liberation. Of reclamation. Of reconnection with our pre-industrial, pre-capitalist, pre-9-5 lives.
The last several centuries of Western Imperial colonialism and its dominating forces of puritanical christianity and laissez-faire capitalism have really done a number on the human condition.
Where there was once free time, there's now side hustles and grind culture.
Where there was once bodily autonomy, there's now slut shaming and body negativity.
Where there was once liberty, there's now "liberty©™ terms and conditions may apply."
So an outdoor, body affirming boudoir shoot feels natural, yet also feels revolutionary. So I'm gonna keep doing them. Who wants to join me?
